75 Years & Still Growing

In 1934, Dr. Martin Palmer had a dream of helping children with disabilities achieve their potential. Seventy-five years later, that dream is still alive and still growing through the programs and initiatives at Heartspring. We have opened our doors and our hearts to tens of thousands of children with multiple disabilities in Wichita, across the nation and around the world.

Without the drive and passion of Dr. Palmer and those who followed and believed in him, our mission of helping children with special needs grow and learn on a path to a more independent life would be lost. Instead of focusing on a child’s disability, these pioneers instead sought to develop each child’s strengths, providing them with the tools and developing the programs that ensured every child’s success. That pioneering spirit has been ever present in our organization. Today Heartspring reaches out to children, families and other programs that seek our help.

The story of Heartspring is one of determination, perseverance, change and hope. Our legacy lives through those who been a part of our program as a student, client, educator, therapist, staff member, parent, donor, supporter or board member. But our job is not done. In fact, we’re still growing.

In 2009, Heartspring celebrated its 75th Anniversary, honoring the pioneers who created a program that continues to gives hope to children with disabilities around world. The year was filled with special events including a benefit Gala and successful fundraising campaign. As we reminisced about the triumphs over the last 75 years, we look forward to the accomplishments to come in the next 75 years.
