The Wichita Thunder hockey team, a member of the Central Hockey League, presented a check for $1000 to Heartspring February 3 as a result of fundraising efforts by the league. The CHL partners with the Hoffen Foundation, whose mission is to raise money to assist children with differing diseases, disabilities and socioeconomic challenges. Throughout the season, the CHL initiated several hockey-related fundraising efforts in conjunction with the Hoffen Foundation, who then distributes proceeds to specific charities within each CHL market as identified by member teams. Heartspring adapted physical education teacher Travis Grover helped to initiate and maintain a relationship with the Thunder resulting in this donation. Accepting the check on behalf of Heartspring were Samuel Thompson, Heartspring student Anthony, Leigh Horsley and Cheryl Carr Johnson. The Thunder also donated 75 tickets to Heartspring so students and staff could celebrate the generosity of the Thunder and the Hoffen Foundation.
