The mission of the Heartspring School is in partnership with parents, professionals, and the community, to help children with special needs grow and learn on a path to a more independent life.
Heartspring provides an appropriate individualized program and learning environment for the comprehensive education of each student with special needs. Our goal is to facilitate the development of independence and to provide our students with the academic foundation necessary for them to reach their potential and succeed in meeting their individualized functional outcome goals.
Our foundation for organizing the learning environment entails the adoption of Structured Teaching Strategies. This program enhances understanding and meaning, engages the unique learning style of students with disabilities, decreases anxiety, increases the ability to learn, promotes independent functioning, manages behavior, enable students to generalize skills across environments, and helps students make sense of the environment. Physical structure, daily schedules, work systems, and visual organization help students learn to transition successfully, build independence, organize time and space, teach flexibility, and acquire vocational skills.
